Look at the words
The AI looks for words that show a feeling. For example "happy", "sad", "love" or "hate".

Watch the words nearby
Good systems look at which words stand together. "Not happy" means something else than "happy".

Give points
The AI gives the text points. They show how positive or negative it is. The scale often runs from -1 to 1.

Companies read what customers write about them. They also look at social networks. That helps them make better products.
